Satisfactory Academic Progress
What is satisfactory academic progress?
Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and must complete 67% of the cumulative credits they attempt in order to be making satisfactory academic progress toward completing their degree, certificate or diploma.
What if I don't make satisfactory academic progress?
You are placed on probation. If you are able to bring your cumulative levels up to the required levels by the end of the following term, you are once again making satisfactory progress.
Am I eligible for financial aid when I'm on probation?
Yes, students who are on probation can continue to receive financial aid.
What if I don't bring my cumulative levels up to where they need to be during the probationary period?
If you do not meet the required cumulative levels, you can continue on probation only in the following circumstances:
Students who are placed on probation due to their GPA must have a 2.5 minimum term GPA while still maintaining a cumulative completion ratio of 67%. Students who are placed on probation due to their completion rate must complete 100% of the term credits while maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Students who are on probation due to both GPA and completion ratio must meet both standards defined above.
If this does not occur, you are suspended.
What happens when I am suspended?
You cannot attend Lake Superior College or receive financial aid.
Can I appeal my suspension?
Yes. A student who fails to make satisfactory academic progress and is suspended has the right to appeal. Appeals for earliest possible reinstatement must be based on unusual or extenuating circumstances, including but not limited to death of a relative, illness, hospitalization, or injury of the student.
