Alliss Grant

What is an Alliss Grant?
An Alliss grant pays for the tuition, fees and book for one course taken at Lake Superior College.

Who qualifies for an Alliss grant?
Alliss grant recipients must be Minnesota residents who have been out of school for at least seven years. They may be first-time community college enrollees who graduated from high school at least seven years ago or former college students who haven't been in college for seven years.

Can I take any course that I choose for the Allis grant to apply?
The course must be part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. The physical education/health requirements listed on the planner do not qualify for the Alliss grant.

How to I apply for an Alliss grant?
The Alliss grant application is available on the LSC Financial Aid Website in the "Types of Financial Aid section under "Other Sources of Aid". Complete the application and return it to the LSC Student Services Center.

How do I know if I will receive the Alliss grant?
You will be notified by mail if you and the course you have selected qualify for the grant.

Can I receive financial aid and an Alliss grant at the same time?
No, regulations require that you cannot receive both federal/state financial aid and the Alliss grant during the same term.

If I qualify for the Alliss grant, how do I sign up for the course and receive the books?
You will register as a non-degree seeking student. This can be done online through the Records & Registration website. The student payment office and the bookstore are notified that you are eligible for the grant at the time that your notification is mailed to you. However, you should take the letter with you to the bookstore when you pick up your book.
