What is Passkey?
PassKey is an extremely user friendly computer tutorial that offers assistance in building skills in: Writing Reading Math
PassKey is useful for those who feel they need to brush up on skills prior to taking the College Placement Test.
The PassKey system consists of tutorials that the user works on independently to achieve "college readiness". There are no time restrictions, and a tutor is usually near to answer questions. One initial appointment is needed to get "logged" onto the PassKey tutorials. Call (218)733-7671 or email p.young@lsc.edu to get started.
Users are assigned a series of skills to practice. If a pre-test associated with a skill is not passed, the PassKey system initiates a tutorial on that skill, followed by a post-test. Users are given three attempts to pass each post-test and if, after the third try, the user is unsuccessful, tutoring sessions can be set up for help with that skill area. As skills are mastered, users advance to higher levels of skill development.
Students can use the tutorials to better prepare before a class begins, prior to taking the placement test, or for English language learning (ESL).
Instructors (reading and writing) can set up assignments in advance. A printout of the student's progress is available at the request of the instructor.
There is also a science component that offers limited tutorials in physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science.
