So You Want to be a Peer Tutor?

Peer tutors are LSC students who are work study eligible and have successfully completed at least one semester of college. (Occasionally peer tutors are hired with Student Worker funding.) Peer tutors must be in satisfactory academic standing and must have excelled in the course or courses in which they wish to tutor. Peer tutors are chosen for their academic and interpersonal skills and need a recommendation by an instructor. They must also participate in paid training which results in Level I certification by the College Reading and Learning Association.

Benefits of peer tutoring include:

  • Paid employment on campus
  • Maintain skills and information in the courses in which you tutor
  • Meet new people

Peer tutors are hired in writing/composition, all levels of math, anatomy and physiology, psychology, accounting, chemistry, economics, medical terminology, study skills and test strategies, and others. The ads and specific qualifications for current positions can be found at Placement Services under Workstudy Listings or www.lsc.edu/FinancialAid/wkstuintro.cfm
