Dear students:

I love sociology and I love teaching.  There's nothing I'd rather do!  I'm not really a lecturer and I don't use traditional tests.  But I do require a fair amount of writing and we do lots of in-class exercises.  Because sociology is the study of human social interaction,  I  ask you to draw on your personal experience in order to apply sociology.  I also share my experience with you.  In the process, we get to know each other better, and that always helps learning to happen.

You bring your whole life experience to sociology, and my task is to help you add to your knowledge and skills, and organize what you know so that you can place it in a broader context.  It seems to me that the goal of studying sociology is to understand who we are and how our lives fit into the larger society and, ultimately,  the global community.   I hope to see you in the classroom or meet you online!
