Lake Superior College Pilot Program Hosts "Fly In" Public Event; Free Plane Rides Available for Kids 8-17

(Duluth, Minn.) -- Students and faculty of the Lake Superior College Professional Pilot Program will host their fifth annual "Ski Plane, Wheel Plane Fly In."  The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Sat., March 4 at the Sky Harbor Airport, Hanger 10, located on Park Point in Duluth.

The "Fly In" is an open invitation to pilots and aviation enthusiasts to visit the airport, enjoy refreshments, entertainment, and various activities.  Members of the LSC Aviation Club will sell lunch and snacks to raise money for the flight club with food provided by the Scenic CafĂ©.  Musical entertainment will be provided during the day. The Minnesota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics will provide materials for kids.

According to Julius Salinas, LSC Professional Pilot Program instructor,  the event is an excellent opportunity to see a variety of aircraft and to talk with pilots and other industry enthusiasts from many communities throughout the region and Canada.

"If you are interested in flying machines, this event is for you," Salinas said.  "This is our fifth year and every year we grow because we've built a reputation as a fun event."  If flying weather is good, he believes the event could easily attract 60 out-of-town aircraft.

The "Fly In" is free and open to the public. Young Eagle flights are free airplane rides for people 8-17 years of age who would like to experience flight.  A parental permission form will need to be completed prior to the flight.

For more information on the Young Eagle flights, contact Julius Salinas, Lake Superior College Aviation Coordinator, at (218) 723-4880, or j.salinas@lsc.edu.
