Requirements If you are 18 years or older and possess a valid motorcycle permit (from a Minnesota license exam station) you may be able to earn your motorcycle endorsement upon successful completion of the entire course.
Important: This course is physically demanding and requires 100% attendance.
Participants MUST: Be at least 15-years-old (Parent/guardian signature is required for participants under 18 years of age) Possess a valid automobile instructional permit or license Be able to balance and ride a bicycle
Motorcycles are provided.
You must bring the required protective gear including: Eye protection Long-sleeved shirt/jacket Full-fingered gloves Long pants with no tears or holes Sturdy footwear that covers the ankles A D.O.T. approved helmet
You must register for class at least 5 days in advance to receive a packet of materials and a release form. Packets will be mailed one-to-two weeks prior to the assigned session. Parent/guardian signature is required for participants under 18 years of age.
Course fee is due at the time of registration.
Do I need a motorcycle permit before taking the course? Yes. If you are over 18-years-old, you must bring your permit with you to class. No. If you are under 18-years-old, you must take the class before you can get your permit. All students under 18 MUST have a parent/guardian signature to participate.
How is the Basic Rider class structured? In this 14.5 hour course, the first 4.5 hours of the course are instructional in a classroom. A written test will be given at the end of this first class meeting. The remaining 10 hours of the course are riding. The riding skill test will be given on the last day of class.
Where do I go for my class and riding instruction? The first evening of all courses meets at Lake Superior College, 2101 Trinity Rd., Duluth, Minnesota. Confirmations will be mailed upon registration which will include a map to the facility. Friday evenings are in room W2884 or S1981 and Saturday/Sunday sessions are at the Lake Superior College parking lot (unless notified otherwise).
Are motorcycles provided? Yes, for basic rider students. No, for experienced rider students. Experienced riders MUST also provide proof of valid insurance.

What if I need to cancel my registration? You will receive a full refund less a $10 per class processing fee if we receive your cancellation 5 business days before the first class date. Sorry, we cannot issue refunds for cancellations received within 5 business days of the first class date.
Should a class be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund. Please include 2 phone numbers on the registration form.
Does this endorsement transfer to Wisconsin? Yes.
