  1. Philosophy

The committee had a philosophical discussion about serving the needs of all Lake Superior College students, especially those at high risk and needing developmental education.
  2. Academic Alert Letters

The committee decided they would like to have the Academic Alert letter tied into services that would be provided at the Learning Resource Center.
  3. Testing

There is a need to analyze not only CPT data for student success, but also use an additional test (Noel-Levitz) to identify those students who would be more receptive to improving their skills in reading, writing, and math.
  4. Learning Resource Center

The committee talked about the importance of making sure the center is staffed by a strong academic team (e.g. dean and faculty)
  5. Placement Results

Beth Adams, Vice President of Student Services, distributed a document outlining placement results. The information provided in this document will help us identify students at risk. Discussion centered around how we can use data to help us retain our students.
  6. Institutional Research

The committee asked Sue Stenerson, Dean of Institutional Planning and Research, to help gather the needed data to make more informed decisions about how we serve our students. Jerry Niebauer has the four questions for this project. He will be asked to share this information with Sue Stenerson.
  7. Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for March 4, 8:00 a.m., in the Academic Conference Room.
